NYRSTAR Port Peries selects LSM Technologies TyreGuard® TMSystems for Port Equipment

Nyrstar Smelter's large Gottwald (Kone Cranes) Mobile Gantry Crane and Page Macrae Hopper are prime examples. The Gottwald G HMK 6407 weighs in at 420 tonne and requires 28 x Wheels / Tyres to move this behemoth on 7 x Axles. 

A unique piece of machinery, as all 7 x axles drive the Crane. Every shift change, as part of the start-up routine, all tyres are to be checked and this becomes a laborious task, not to mention the added exposure to lead particles to whomever is checking the tyres. Employee safety is paramount at the Port Pirie site and finding a solution that keeps employees off the wharf and delivers on tyre pressure / temperature monitoring was a major priority.

Thankfully, they didn’t have to look too far to found the solution-already utilised on other equipment on site. LSM Technologies TyreGuard® TMSystems have been operating at the Smelter for over two years, now on various other heavy equipment monitoring the pressure and temperature of their Komatsu Dump Trucks, etc.

The challenge for the Gottwald Crane was having the ability for the maintenance crew (or Operator) to check tyre pressures from the ground, whilst the Operator was up in the Cabin inside the Crane. The answer - LSM TyreGuard® MTR360 TMSystem which is ideally suited and easily configured for Multi-Tow combinations and Multi - Tyre equipment such as the Gottwald Crane

Also with the LSM TyreGuard® MTR360 TMSystem Display / Monitor mounted inside the Electrical box at the bottom of the Crane, the start-up crew can easily check if all tyres and ensure that they were within an acceptable baseline pressure range [green is good, red is bad].

An added feature of the LSM TyreGuard® MTR360 TMSystem is the One-click Transceiver.  When coupled with the LSM TyreGuard® SmartLink Tablet, the One- Click allows maintenance staff to program replacement Sensors and complete a tyre check on all 28 x tyres in less than 2 minutes.
