LSM Secures Australian Patent for LSM TrainSense®- Global Protection Underway
LSM Technologies is proud to confirm the successful grant of an Australian Patent for the LSM TrainSense® Rail Level Crossing Collision Awareness and Avoidance System (CAAS). This achievement represents an important step forward in the company’s commitment to enhancing safety at rail level crossings through advanced in-vehicle intelligent warning solutions. Over the past thirty years, extensive international research and field trials have demonstrated the proven impact of In-Vehicle Warning Systems (IVWS) in reducing level crossing collisions by addressing human-factor risks directly within the vehicle cabin.
LSM TrainSense® has been developed to directly address human (and environmental) factors that contribute to incidents at passive and active level crossings, including distraction, complacency, fatigue, and environmental visibility limitations. The patented system provides in-cabin audible and visual alerts to drivers as they approach railway crossings and is designed to integrate with modern vehicle safety systems, including radar-based proximity detection and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technologies.
The Australian patent grant provides strong validation of the innovation and uniqueness of the LSM ® architecture, as well as it is a "here in Australia grown" concept. It reinforces LSM Technologies’ position as a developer of practical, scalable, and cost-effective safety solutions for heavy vehicles and broader vehicle fleets.
In parallel with the Australian grant, LSM Technologies is progressing international protection through the PCT pathway. Following a favourable International Search Report and written opinion, the company is confident in securing broader international patent protection across key jurisdictions. This global strategy reflects the universal nature of the level crossing safety challenge and the strong export potential of the technology.
Peter Woodford, Engineering Director and CEO of LSM Technologies, stated:
“The Australian patent grant represents a critical milestone for LSM TrainSense®. Combined with a favourable international examination outcome, we are confident in expanding protection globally and advancing commercialisation opportunities with transport authorities, vehicle manufacturers, and fleet operators.”
LSM Technologies will continue engaging with government agencies, regulators, and industry stakeholders to progress pilot programs and national deployment pathways.
