CICA Pick n Carry Crane On-Road Course | LSM TyreGuard® TMSystems Support
CICA’s new articulated crane on-road course strengthens operator competence and safety management for PicknCarry cranes. LSM Technologies TyreGuard® TyreGuard® TMSystems directly support these initiatives-aligning with safety standards for tyre and stability management by CICA and NHVR standards / guidelines for tyre monitoring, blowout prevention, and road safety.
The Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) has launched a dedicated Articulated Mobile Crane - On-Road Course to address the complex handling and stability requirements of PicknCarry cranes- view program details here.
Articulated cranes differ from slewing cranes in that their stability depends entirely on tyre condition and inflation pressure, rather than outriggers. The 2015 CICA Position Paper identifies tyre pressure and ground stability as critical to preventing rollovers and capacity loss, with incorrect tyre pressures directly linked to tipping events
The NHVR Safety Bulletin SB-2021-02 further reinforces the need for daily tyre checks and adherence to manufacturer tyre pressure values before road travel, noting that on-road operation introduces additional dynamic loading risks
Complementing these, the CICA Crane Safety Bulletin 235 (2018) highlights the critical danger of tyre pyrolysis and blowouts, particularly after extended travel on open roads where excessive heat buildup can trigger tyre explosions. Such events pose severe risks to operators, bystanders, and surrounding vehicles- especially if tyres are under-inflated or subject to friction-induced overheating during crane transit.
LSM Technologies LSM TyreGuard® TMSystems directly address these hazards by providing real-time tyre pressure and temperature monitoring—detecting early indicators of under-inflation, overheating, or pyrolytic conditions before failure occurs. As detailed in LSM’s technical articles:

LSM TyreGuard® systems provide a proven mitigation measure that enhances both compliance and safety.
By combining CICA’s structured operator training with LSM’s advanced monitoring technologies, the industry continues to elevate standards for safe on-road crane operation-protecting lives, assets, and the reputation of Australia’s heavy vehicle sector.
